Volunteer with sun bears (14 or 28 days)

Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) Sepilok

The project is at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation centre (BSBCC) where you will need to get down and dirty taking care of the smallest bears in the world, working to clean their dens and creating environmental and food enrichment. In addition to enriching the sun bears living conditions, you will learn about sun bears in the different stages of rehabilitation and the process of releasing them back into the wild. Working alongside local people will enable you to experience and understand the Malaysian culture. There is some time off during the placement to explore the beautiful surroundings of Sepilok and nearby towns and wildlife sanctuaries.

Anyone over the age of 18 can be part of this project which can be a life changing experience. Please note that there is no direct contact with the animals.

From $1899 per person. The placements starts on the 5th of every month and ties in perfectly with the Borneo Wildlife Safari.

Your itinerary

Day 1

Your adventure begins in Sandakan with a pick up from the airport. You will be transferred to your accommodation in Sepilok and meet the rest of your group at 18.00 hours for a welcome dinner and briefing.

Day 2

Today is orientation day. There will be some time in the morning to purchase items you may need and get ready to meet the bears.

Before you head to the bear house and start working, there will be a thorough health & safety talk.
